King Power promotes ‘Phi Ta Khon’, Loei’s local culture, as part of Leicester City 2025: Ghost in the Weave, showcasing Thai weavercraft to the world

It’s time for the charm and beauty of Thai fabrics to make their entrance on the world stage once again! The KING POWER THAI POWER initiative, in partnership with Leicester City Football Club, Multiply by Eight Co., Ltd., and the Ban Nong Nam Sai Silk Weaving Community, Loei Province, launches the new 2025 LCFC souvenir collection under the title Ghost in the Weave Collection, inspired by the ‘Phi Ta Khon’ festival — a unique tradition originating from Loei. The collection highlights the use of the ancient weaving technique ‘Mad Mee’, in which silk threads are dyed before weaving. This technique exquisitely combines the traditional pattern of the Phi Ta Khon mask with the fox emblem of Leicester City FC — a masterful touch that elevates local handicraft and Thai fabrics to the world stage. The collection is officially available now at the Foxes Fanstore, Leicester, UK; shop.lcfc.com; all LCFC stores at King Power branches; and online at www.kingpower.com and Facebook: Leicestershop.th.

The KING POWER THAI POWER project is committed to continuously driving the community’s potential forward. Its success in bringing Thai fabrics to the world market proves that the charm of Thai textiles is not limited to fashion merchandise, but also inspires travellers to experience this local wisdom in its place of origin. The Ghost in the Weave Collection is the eighth collection created through the collaboration between the designer team of Multiply by Eight Co., Ltd. and local weavers, with the aim of producing Thai fabrics in contemporary designs that align with international tastes. This project is regarded as an effort to create sustainable employment that steadily drives the local economy, while preserving the enduring value of Thai culture.

The “Ghost in the Weave Collection” presents a reinterpretation of the Phi Ta Khon mask through pixel art, creating contemporary fashion items that remain true to the essence of local culture. The collection features four primary color tones—green, navy blue, blue, and white. At the heart of the design lies the traditional wisdom of Mudmee weaving method, utilizing the ancient techniques of tying and dyeing cotton threads to produce refined pixel-style graphic patterns. This results in a captivating fusion of the fox face and the Phi Ta Khon mask motifs. The collection includes seven product types: a limited-edition jacket (only 500 pieces available worldwide), short-sleeve crew-neck T-shirts in white and navy blue, a long-sleeve striped polo shirt in navy and green, a cap, a football-shaped cushion, and a tote bag.

Mrs. Nutgira Sinso, president of the Ban Nong Nam Sai weaving community, Loei, said “the weaving group was established to preserve and carry on the traditional craft of weaving, a treasured cultural heritage. The group consists of around 20 members, each skilled in every stage of the production process—from growing GI-certified cotton to cultivating mulberry trees and raising silkworms, enabling a fully integrated fabric production. For the “Ghost in the Weave Collection,” the group produced over 1,000 metres of woven fabric, a process that normally took three months to complete. This was the first time the group had undertaken such a large and challenging commission, prompting them to experiment with new tying and dyeing techniques as well as color shade selection. It took numerous trials to achieve the desired patterns, especially the fox-face motif, before finally creating the distinctive designs now seen in the collection. Each piece of Mudmee cotton embodies the spirit, dedication, and craftsmanship of the weavers. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to King Power for supporting local artisans and showcasing Thai craftsmanship on the global stage—an invaluable opportunity that helps generate income, enhance skills, and promote sustainable growth within the weaving community.”
